Specialized x Call2Recycle
When we introduced the first Specialized Turbo e-bike in 2012, we knew the world would never be the same. In the decade since, electric-assist bikes have begun to revolutionize transportation and recreation, with Specialized Turbo bikes leading the way. While this technology has the potential to dramatically reshape our personal and societal carbon footprints, e-bike batteries don’t last forever, and e-waste is a major concern.
We partnered with Call2Recycle, a pioneer in battery collection and recycling logistics, to solve the critical step of getting batteries from customers and bike shops to industry recycling partners, such as Redwood Materials. Specialized and our retail partners spearheaded the first e-bike battery recycling program of its kind in the US. In March of 2022, the program expanded to include most major e-bike brands in the US.
Specialized turbo retailers were the first to become authorized li-ion battery collection sites with Call2Recycle. They are an essential part of the success of the program.
